Frequently Asked Questions

I want you to make an informed decision about treatment. If these responses don't answer your questions, please let me know during your free consultation.

Q:   How long is a therapy session?

A:    The therapeutic hour is 50 minutes in duration.

Q:   How often should I see you?

A:    For you to get the most out of treatment and for you to really see change in your life, weekly sessions are recommended.

Q:   Do you have a sliding scale?

A:    I have a few dedicated slots for sliding scale. Please inquire.

Q:   If I need to cancel my appointment, what should I do?

A:    For the best therapeutic outcome, it is recommended that you attend your scheduled appointments. Since scheduling an appointment involves reserving time specifically for you, if you need to cancel an appointment, please try to give as much notice as possible. If you cancel with less than 24-hours’ notice, you will be charged for the missed appointment. I prefer communication via e-mail or text for canceling or rescheduling appointments.

Q:   How can I reach you in a crisis?

A:    If a crisis occurs, call me at 669-232-3275 and leave me a message. I return calls between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on my dedicated workdays (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday).

Q:   What should I expect in our first session?

A:    You will receive and e-mail message with intake forms to complete prior to our first session. Please fill these out as soon as you are able to do so, so that I can review them prior to our first appointment.

In our first session or two, we will review your goals and intentions for treatment, you will share your current challenges or symptoms, and I will discuss my approach toward addressing your goals. We will also review my office policies and practice, and we will discuss confidentiality and how I work to protect your privacy and health information (HIPAA).

You will need to assess the meeting to determine whether you think we can work together successfully and whether my approach fits what you believe you need. I will assess to determine whether I believe I am the most-qualified therapist to treat you based upon my skills, training, experience, and therapeutic model.

Some questions you may want to ask your insurance provider before proceeding:

Q:   What are my out-of-network benefits and how much will I be reimbursed for psychotherapy services, particularly for service codes 90834 and 90837 with an MFT-level provider in the 95030 ZIP code?

Q:   What are the steps I need to take to submit a superbill to obtain reimbursement?

Q:   Do I have a deductible that I need to meet before I can receive reimbursement?

And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.
